  I Remember

elm trees    dry wind    tumbleweeds
cracked clay earth purple mountains
irrigation   lines          sweet   alfalfa
bermuda grass marigolds "soft sands"
cowboy hats   western shirts   chaps
hayhooks   tractors   catfish  silence

I remember silence

The sun beats down
I can see for miles
I am young
and I am still
the total silence of this moment
fills my ears
      my mind
      my heart
the quiet comforts me

       I remember silence.
