  The Word flat

The word flat is not---
not with its tower,
lookout,
and facade.

The prairie, though, stays low
for cursive miles before and after amber sun,
airy spaces dotted by a banking throng of starlings,
dotted by a single insect blown against a bending clover.

When you have visited,
don't note
how flat.
