Prairie Poetry
  My Prairie Town

With no river to beautify it
Or flood it!
No one knows why?
A railway town -
Came to sit here,
On this particular stretch
Of plain prairie
A hundred years ago?

A hundred years of gradual
Sustained growth
Means -
We have it all here,
Everything from community college
To cemetery big enough
To bury us all.

Yes, we have it all!
Hockey, curling, baseball and bowling,
Good swimming pool and golf course,
A movie theatre and video store,
Chinese food, pizza and beer,
Lottery tickets, bingo, and VLTs
These are the things
That means progress here.
