Prairie Poetry
  Nebraska 8:52 pm

On the road since 9 am
From Minnesota to Arizona
Driving west on I-80 through Nebraska
Just outside of Lincoln.

Through the windshield
To the west
The sun drops down
Behind a pink haze.
Its glare reduced
To a round glow.

To the south
A line of darkly violent clouds
Covers the land and the sky.
Rain pours down in one long sheet
As lightening arcs through the air.

To the north
Dabs of pink and purple clouds
Hang motionless in a yellow sky.

At the motel
Looking out the window
To the east
A rainbow stretches across the sky.
