Prairie Poetry   
  Romancing To a Two-Step
   
 

champagne and roses
violins
strawberries dipped in chocolate

beer and pretzels
steel guitar
bread dipped in bbq

fancy French restaurant
foxtrot
midnight walks on the beach

Bubba's fish shack
boot-scootin'
skinny dippin' by moonlight

His idea of courtship was sophisticated airs,
her concept of courtin' smoky bars and the odor of rodeos.

a diamond ring the size of Texas
pearls
honeymoon in Calgary

She compromised
and agreed if the honeymoon was a cattle drive.

He now lives in Kansas City
with two children,
two dogs,
a cat
and a mistress from the office.

She dances cabaret in Denver,
teaches line dancing at the local junior collage,
waits for Clint to ride down from Laramie

and sings Crazy in the shower.
