Small Town Life

The air is warm,
with the smell of
freshly turned earth.

There's one main street
In Hot Springs, South Dakota

Poeple have honor
based on hand shakes alone.

My father still lives there.
So, does the rest of the family.

They farm
or ranch
outside of town.

But their mornings
are spent
in the small cafe.
Where Flo serves the coffee
and Butch
Sweet Butch
He oversees the gossip.

This is where I am from
This is where I long to be.
