Comfort

You bring me tulips
that open in my hands
the way spring opens
after a thousand years
of winter on the prairie.

Imagine the singing of blossoms
the slow sweet sound
of language rising
from earth to sky
a gentle gift of color.

Such great comfort
this sudden spread of warmth
the way light expands
within these hands as they turn
and turn at the open window.
