Bad Lands Revisited

prairie dust fills
my nostrils
incessant baked clay
smell
of home

wind washed grit   coats
lips and teeth
I swallow heat   familiar
thirst

badland twilight tricks
my eye
dusk dominoes down
the steep   valley walls

night draws circles
plays hide and seek
snakes through
scrub brush   armed
with thorns

hoodoos stalk
the edge of sleep
memories of home
of love   denied

my buried dragons
erupt
rockhard
